    IBEW LOCAL 531 JOINT APPRENTICESHIP AND TRAINING PROGRAM OF NORTHERN INDIANA

    We are looking for men and women who are seeking a career in the Electrical Construction industry.  Our apprenticeship programs provide a path for you to become a journeyman wireman with the IBEW while you work for our industry partners, our contractors.  We offer competetive wages, health insurance for you and your family, and multiple retirements.

    The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 531 and the National Electrical Contractors' Association sponsor through the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee an apprenticeship program.  The apprenticeship program is registered with the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. The program consists of on-the-job training by union electrical contractors and related classroom instruction.

    Under the direct supervision of journeymen wiremen, the apprentice will learn the skills associated with being an electrician. Electricians assemble, install, maintain and test electrical equipment and wiring systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings. On-the-job training might include the mounting of electrical boxes, equipment, lighting fixtures, bending and installing conduit, wiring switches, outlets, phones, panels, installing systems like voice and data, fiber optic, traffic controllers, fire alarm, security, motor control, PLC Controls and temperature control.

    THE JOURNEYMAN WIREMAN PROGRAM

    The five-year Journeyman Wireman Program provides you with intensive training and experience in advanced technologies, ensuring that you are one of the most highly trained, skilled and professional electricians in the industry. You would acquire the knowledge and skills to complete a variety of projects, from commercial and residential construction, to industrial installations, to building and plant maintenance, high voltage testing and splicing and underground cable installation. The program also boast a 90% graduate rate.

    Electrical Construction Courses Include:

    * Electrical Theory * Electrical Codes * Math * Motor Controls * Digital Electronics * Low Voltage Systems * Conduit Bending * Instrumentation * Safety/CPR/First Aid * Grounding * Computer Based Training * Welding * Fire Alarm and Security Systems * Programmable Controls Hydraulic Conduit Bending * Blueprints * High Voltage Splicing * Basic Wiring * Fiber Optics

    ELECTRICAL RESIDENTIAL TRAINING PROGRAM

    The Residential Program is three years in length and program consists of 4800 hours of on-the-job training by union electrical contractors and a minimum of 540 hours of related classroom instruction. Registration is open year round for this program.

    Residential electricians assemble, install maintain and test wiring systems and electrical equipment in residential settings. On-the-job training might include the mounting of electrical boxes, equipment, lighting fixtures, bending and installing conduit, wiring switches, panels, phones, outlets, installing systems like voice and data, fire alarm, security and home management systems.

    Classroom training includes: First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10 hour Certification Training, safety training, the National Electrical Code, electrical theory, mathematics, conduit bending, blueprint reading, voice and data, transformers and fire alarm.

    TELECOMMUNICATION APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

    This apprenticeship program is three years in length and is registered with the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. The program consists of 4800 hours of on-the-job training by union telecommunication contractors and a minimum of 540 hours of related classroom instruction. Registration is also open year round for this program.

    The apprentice technician, under the direct supervision of journeyman technicians, will learn the skills associated with being a journeyman technician. On-the-job training might include mounting electrical boxes, wiring switches, equipment, outlets, phones, panels, fiber optic, security, sound and installing systems like voice and data.

    For those with the right skills and training, the telecommunications industry offers an ever-expanding world of opportunities. Our Telecommunications Program creates well-rounded technicians, who are experts in the complete scope of the industry. Our technicians help build the communications systems that connect computer systems and voice and data, to fiber optics and security systems. For telecommunications projects such as hospital and school security systems, business office networking and new "high-tech" hotels, they are the first choice.
